CHICAGO, Ill. – State Rep. Ken Dunkin, D-Chicago, will host a town hall meeting to discuss proposed amendments to the Illinois Fire Safety Code. He will be joined by Illinois State Fire Marshall Larry Matkaitis and members of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR). The proposed changes would require buildings to be retrofitted with fire sprinklers, which could cost Chicago homeowners, condo associations and businesses thousands of dollars to upgrade their buildings to meet new standards.
“Preventing fires and understanding how to protect our families and businesses during an emergency are important topics for everyone to understand,” Dunkin said. “The reason for this meeting is to be sure that residents and business owners have an opportunity to discuss the proposed changes with the individuals who regulate fire safety. I encourage residents and business owners to attend this meeting to voice their concerns about how the proposed changes may affect them. ”
