Springfield, IL – State Rep. Ken Dunkin (D-Chicago) released the following statement in response to Governor Quinn’s Annual State of the State Address.
“The families in my district consistently push for better jobs, funding for disability and mental health programs and the need for quality schools. I applaud Gov. Quinn for offering his support to legislation to raise the state minimum wage, bring jobs back into local communities, reform pensions and to fund the programs that our most vulnerable citizens depend on to survive.
“I also thank Gov. Quinn for inviting Bernard Loyd of Urban-Juncture to be a part of this year’s State of the State Address, and highlighting Mr. Loyd’s work to bring 70 jobs back to the Bronzeville neighborhood, all while addressing the needs of the food desert.
“As I mourn with people across the state about the senseless loss of our children, like Hadiya Pendleton I stand with the Governor to make sure that dangerous military-style assault weapons do not make it onto our streets and into the hands of criminals, and that our state passes responsible gun control legislation within the limits of the Constitution.
“Our focus deserves to be turned to finding ways to ensure that children are receiving the best possible education to prepare them to enter our colleges and universities. Without preparing for our future we will find ourselves living in the past.”
